Lake of Bays Cottage Lifestyle

Lake of Bays is one of the largest lakes in Muskoka with a surface area of 67.6 square km and has over 30 islands, including Bigwin Island which features Bigwin Island Golf Club, one of Canada's most beautiful golf experiences. The MNR Lake Fact Sheet has more information on Lake of Bays.

Lake of Bays activities abound. This beautiful cottage region inspired Tom Thompson and the Group of Seven and one can understand why. Participate in boat tours and cruises, canoeing, fishing, hiking and even scuba diving trips. Visit the Lake of Bays Marine Museum to learn about the history of the Lake of Bays and the challenges the first settlers experienced. Drive the Lake of Bays Scenic Drive, an 80 km loop which is a spectacular way to see the fall colours.

SS Bigwin is a historical steamship dating back to the early 1900s. It was recently restored by a coalition of Lake of Bays fundraisers including cottagers, residents, and organizations.  The SS Bigwin offers one-hour public cruises from June through to October departing from the dock in Dorset.

While you're in Dorset make sure you stop at Prairie Boy Muskoka for the best sourdough bread in Muskoka! They also sell quiche, tourtiere and delicious baked goods.  Looking for pizza? Visit Pizza on Earth and experience handmade, gourmet pizzas cooked in a traditional brick oven. The wood-fire imparts a rustic smokiness and makes a deliciously crisp and tender pizza crust.

The Township of Lake of Bays has over 100 freshwater lakes. With many distinctive resorts, cultural attractions, and outdoor activities it's a prime Muskoka real estate hub. Within the Township of Lake of Bays, the communities of Baysville, Dorset, and Dwight each offer a wide selection of restaurants, galleries, and unique shops and are all accessible by water!.

A golfer's destination, Bigwin Island features Bigwin Island Golf Club, one of Canada's most beautiful golf experiences.
